PAX Gift Card Integration | Factor4

How the PAX connection works

Factor4 connects directly to PAX. Gift card activation, redemption and balance lookups run through the platform your staff already use, against one real-time balance ledger — no second device and no nightly batch.

PAX terminals also carry gift card traffic for several POS platforms in this catalogue.

Setup steps

Onboarding follows the same sequence on every platform: confirm the configuration, connect the program, load card stock, test at the register, then go live. Timelines depend on how many locations and devices are in scope.

  1. 1Confirm the PAX models in your locations and whether the terminal runs standalone or bundled behind a POS.
  2. 2Have your processor or reseller load the Factor4 application onto the terminal.
  3. 3Bind each terminal to your Factor4 program with the credentials issued during onboarding.
  4. 4Confirm card stock or an existing card range for migration.
  5. 5Test activation, redemption, partial redemption and balance inquiry on each terminal.
  6. 6Go live. Typical elapsed time from kickoff to first live card: [TODO: verify].

What the workflow looks like at the terminal

Four actions cover almost everything a clerk does with a gift card: activate, redeem, redeem part of a balance, and check a balance. Each one runs against the same real-time ledger, so a card sold at one location works instantly at another.

  • Activate: choose Gift, then Activate or Issue, swipe or key the card, enter the amount, and the card is live immediately.
  • Redeem: choose Gift, then Redeem, swipe the card and enter the amount to draw down.
  • Partial redemption: the terminal redeems up to the available balance and prints the remainder due for a second tender.
  • Balance check: choose Gift, then Balance Inquiry, and the terminal prints the current balance.
