Setup steps

  2. 2Confirm the PAX A35 pin pad is in place at each register, since the gift card flow runs through it.
  3. 3Enable the Factor4 gift card tender in the Heartland configuration.
  4. 4Confirm card stock or an existing card range for migration.
  5. 5Test activation, redemption, partial redemption and balance inquiry at the pin pad.

What the workflow looks like at the terminal

Four actions cover almost everything a clerk does with a gift card: activate, redeem, redeem part of a balance, and check a balance. Each one runs against the same real-time ledger, so a card sold at one location works instantly at another.

  • Activate: ring the gift card as an item, swipe or scan the card, enter the load amount, and the card is live on the shared balance ledger before the receipt prints.
  • Redeem: tender the check to gift card, swipe or key the card number, and the balance is drawn down in real time.
  • Partial redemption: when the balance is less than the check, the POS applies the full remaining balance and leaves the difference on the check for a second tender.
  • Balance check: run a balance inquiry from the same menu; the terminal prints or displays the current balance without moving funds.
